To apply for a Visa, the Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of intended departure.
Important Information
Visas for Malawi, only accords one permission, that they will enter Malawi within the validity period of the Visa, subject to fulfilling other entry requirements, and that the validity period of the Visa is not necessarily your permitted days to stay/reside in Malawi. You are given the permitted days to reside in Malawi at the port of entry by the Immigration officers
All nationals from countries that require Malawians to pay for visa to enter their countries are required to obtain a visa to enter Malawi. However, there are three main categories (1, 2 & 3) which are described below.
All nationals of countries and regions listed in Category A do not require a visa if they are intending to stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days after which they will require a visa.
All nationals of countries and regions listed in Category B can obtain visa on arrival with or without prior approval if they are intending to visit Malawi
All nationals of countries and regions listed in Category C require a visa well in advance, or prior authorization.
NOTE: Visitors on a visitors’ permit, can extend their stay to a maximum of 90 days upon payment of a prescribed fee for every 30days extension

COUNTRIES AND REGIONS THAT DO NOT REQUIRE A VISA AND INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE ISSUED WITH A GRATIS VISA TO ENTER MALAWI
a. Nationals from the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries, except for those countries that subject Malawians to a Visa within SADC;
b. Nationals from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) countries, except for those countries that subject Malawians to a Visa within COMESA;
c. All Diplomatic and Service/Official Passport holders to be issued with a Gratis (Free) Visa.

Application Requirements
To apply for a Visa, the Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of intended departure.

Application Requirements

- 2 Passport-size photos
- Fees
- Onward ticket
- Valid Passport (at least six months before expiry date with enough un used pages)
- Copy of a letter from the applicant’s Organization or invitation letter.
- Copy of sponsor’s Residential Status in Malawi (i.e. Permit or Malawi Passport if Malawian).
