The Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr. Mwayiwawo Polepole attended a two-day U.N. High-Level Conference on Strengthening International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation and Building Agile Border Security Mechanisms in Kuwait.

Addressing the conference, Dr. Polepole said the destructive impacts of terrorism undermine economic growth, disrupt societies, and weaken governance structures, making the fight against terrorism a shared global responsibility. He expressed Malawi’s commitment to complementing global efforts to combat terrorism and maintain global peace and security.

The event, which was held from November 4th to 5th, 2024, in Kuwait City, focused on preventing terrorist movements, enhancing collaboration, and building stronger partnerships to support more effective and agile border security and counterterrorism measures.

Kuwait, Tajikistan, and the U.N. Office on Counter-Terrorism jointly hosted the conference, which attracted over 500 high-level participants from 91 U.N. member countries, international and regional organizations, and civil society institutions.
